Site Maintenance

UniversityLyfe will be down for several hours tomorrow December 22nd starting at 1 PM EST. We are performing maintenance in preparation for the release of Campus Clouds! The site should be back up within a few hours.

Network Upgrade

In preparation for the launch of Campus Clouds (uLyfe v2) we will be performing network maintenance which will include the addition of new servers and reconfiguring of existing servers. Our front-end website servers, platform servers, and database servers will be consolidated to a central location in San Antonio, TX at one of the RackSpace data centers.

Users should not experience any down time or loss of data however there is a chance for the loss of  functionality, for instance not being able to upload a photo. If users experience any such issues we encourage contacting us immediately via email at support@ulyfe.com with the email you use to log in and the nature of the bug you are experiencing so that we can address such issues as soon as possible.

Campus Clouds is slated for release in early January in anticipation for the Spring semester.

Changes include:

• Streamline two-column design (modular design and gradients have been stripped)
  
• Faster load times
• Single account type-structure
• Unlimited "Pages" for organizations, businesses and now classes
• Several user-reported issues with calendars and member management have been fixed
• Log in/Register through Facebook Connect using your Facebook credentials
  
• Easier 1-step registration process
• Enhanced usage of the cloud for content delivery, storage and backup utilizing Amazon S3
• All component/features will have updated designs, new functionality and organizational structures
• Campus News has been integrated into the Campus Wall
  

After tons of feedback from our 10,000 strong users we have decided to incorporate the ability for college administrators/student governments to administrate related communities on the newly dubbed uLyfe.com Higher Education Social Network which will include:

• Customize content such as important links, address and contact information
  
• Add semester dates
  
• Customize the look of a Community
  
• Moderate News Sources
  
• Moderate the Campus Wall
• Moderate visibility of individual Pages (organizations, businesses and classes)
• Authenticate Registered Student Organizations
  

Following the new release we are opening a new "Cloud and Apps" store will feature UniversityLyfe style social-networks for non-profit organizations, small businesses and enterprise corporations as well as applications for Facebook, Google Apps, Apple computers, and several mobile platforms including Android and iPhone.

We also anticipate an Open Source release of the core of our platform which will be the first Social Networking Engine of it's kind allowing users to create their own out-of-the-box social-network style websites.

UniversityLyfe becomes AER Certified!

UniversityLyfe has become a certified Authorized Education Reseller and will be working on relationships this winter with distributors to be able to sell, at discounted pricing, volume and individual licensing for Microsoft software to higher education institutions and students through our anticipated store Clouds & Apps store coming next spring!

UniversityLyfe would like to welcome our new Creative team member (the first and only member) Leonard Ali we look forward to seeing his creative inspiration in Version 2 of UniversityLyfe "Campus Clouds".

In other news, Jose Robles, formerly our Chief Programming Engineer, has been promoted to Cloud Master.

Microsoft Office 2010 Academic Discount

UniversityLyfe has worked out a deal with Microsoft to provide Microsoft Office 2010 Professional Academic at a HUGE discount - just $79.95 with a valid .EDU email address!

This software suite includes:

• Word
• Excel
• Access
• Outlook
• OneNote
• Publisher
• PowerPoint

This normally retails for $300!

Research comes to UniversityLyfe!

Some users may have noticed a new function on their home page 'Research', which allows members to research topics such as Law, Science, Sports and Psychology using the 1911 Encyclopedia Britannica from UniversityLyfe, in several different languages. Other research tools such as Company Profiles allows students to obtain business information, company history and profiles on major corporations using the JRank search engine! You can also cite the research directly from the article page, and even share it on Twitter and Facebook!

This tool has been officially released and in the next release of UniversityLyfe will be accessible from all pages of the website.

UniversityLyfe V2 Underway

Our team has officially started working on UniversityLyfe v2 today! We are currently in the process of platform upgrades and consolidating our data center environments so please bare with us as the site may run slow today (11/17/10) and tomorrow (11/18/10) as we finalize those changes.

On another note due to that consolidation we have had several bugs reported that we are addressing right now:

Search function does not work in IE8

• Notifications are not working properly with missing data or not sending at all (both SMS and Email)
• Breadcrumb icons are broken or the image is 'chopped' up
• The site is slow to load
• Welcome emails have grammatical errors and missing verification links

October 06 Fixes

We have been getting a lot of feedback from the range of our user base and have been working on a new version 3 of the uLyfe platform which will feature a better account structure and  easier registration using Facebook Connect!



Changes coming soon:

• New Home Page Look and Feel (www.uLyfe.com) 
• New Support and How-To Articles
• New Resources Section
• You will be able to do research via uLyfe Encyclopedia search right from your Home Page powered by jRank (www.jRank.org)

Here are some changes recently made:

• Removed activity feeds created in a Campus Portal when students and general users connect to that campus to avoid spamming it (Business and Organization connections still show)
• Extended the length of the Campus Activity Feed to 30 recent events from 10
• Removed the "required information" in account settings for all account types
• Fixed a bug in General/Student registration process that kept redirecting them to their mobile and time zone information. You do not have to re-register if you still end up on that page just complete it and it will redirect you to your settings which you can navigate to your home page from there or where ever you would like to go.
