UniversityLyfe will be down for several hours tomorrow December 22nd starting at 1 PM EST. We are performing maintenance in preparation for the release of Campus Clouds! The site should be back up within a few hours.

Network Upgrade

In preparation for the launch of Campus Clouds (uLyfe v2) we will be performing network maintenance which will include the addition of new servers and reconfiguring of existing servers. Our front-end website servers, platform servers, and database servers will be consolidated to a central location in San Antonio, TX at one of the RackSpace data centers.

Users should not experience any down time or loss of data however there is a chance for the loss of functionality, for instance not being able to upload a photo. If users experience any such issues we encourage contacting us immediately via email at support@ulyfe.com with the email you use to log in and the nature of the bug you are experiencing so that we can address such issues as soon as possible.

Campus Clouds is slated for release in early January in anticipation for the Spring semester.

Changes include:

Streamline two-column design (modular design and gradients have been stripped)
Faster load times
Single account type-structure
Unlimited "Pages" for organizations, businesses and now classes
Several user-reported issues with calendars and member management have been fixed
Log in/Register through Facebook Connect using your Facebook credentials
Easier 1-step registration process
Enhanced usage of the cloud for content delivery, storage and backup utilizing Amazon S3
All component/features will have updated designs, new functionality and organizational structures
Campus News has been integrated into the Campus Wall

After tons of feedback from our 10,000 strong users we have decided to incorporate the ability for college administrators/student governments to administrate related communities on the newly dubbed uLyfe.com Higher Education Social Network which will include:

Customize content such as important links, address and contact information
Add semester dates
Customize the look of a Community
Moderate News Sources
Moderate the Campus Wall
Moderate visibility of individual Pages (organizations, businesses and classes)
Authenticate Registered Student Organizations

Following the new release we are opening a new "Cloud and Apps" store will feature UniversityLyfe style social-networks for non-profit organizations, small businesses and enterprise corporations as well as applications for Facebook, Google Apps, Apple computers, and several mobile platforms including Android and iPhone.

We also anticipate an Open Source release of the core of our platform which will be the first Social Networking Engine of it's kind allowing users to create their own out-of-the-box social-network style websites.

UniversityLyfe becomes AER Certified!

Research comes to UniversityLyfe!

Some users may have noticed a new function on their home page 'Research', which allows members to research topics such as Law, Science, Sports and Psychology using the 1911 Encyclopedia Britannica from UniversityLyfe, in several different languages. Other research tools such as Company Profiles allows students to obtain business information, company history and profiles on major corporations using the JRank search engine! You can also cite the research directly from the article page, and even share it on Twitter and Facebook!

This tool has been officially released and in the next release of UniversityLyfe will be accessible from all pages of the website.

UniversityLyfe V2 Underway

Our team has officially started working on UniversityLyfe v2 today! We are currently in the process of platform upgrades and consolidating our data center environments so please bare with us as the site may run slow today (11/17/10) and tomorrow (11/18/10) as we finalize those changes.

On another note due to that consolidation we have had several bugs reported that we are addressing right now:

Search function does not work in IE8

Notifications are not working properly with missing data or not sending at all (both SMS and Email)
Breadcrumb icons are broken or the image is 'chopped' up
The site is slow to load
Welcome emails have grammatical errors and missing verification links

If you have experienced any of the above issues, please immediately email Support@uLyfe.com and send any emails, screen shots, and recap what you did to experience the issue so we can resolve them as soon as possible!

We have been getting a lot of feedback from the range of our user base and have been working on a new version 3 of the uLyfe platform which will feature a better account structure and easier registration using Facebook Connect!

You will be able to do research via uLyfe Encyclopedia search right from your Home Page powered by jRank (www.jRank.org)

Here are some changes recently made:

Removed activity feeds created in a Campus Portal when students and general users connect to that campus to avoid spamming it (Business and Organization connections still show)
Extended the length of the Campus Activity Feed to 30 recent events from 10
Removed the "required information" in account settings for all account types
Fixed a bug in General/Student registration process that kept redirecting them to their mobile and time zone information. You do not have to re-register if you still end up on that page just complete it and it will redirect you to your settings which you can navigate to your home page from there or where ever you would like to go.

UniversityLyfe has over 100+ Active Schools and finding them is even easier now! You can search the full school name, partial, or the widely used abbreviation. We even updated schools that have recently changed names to be recognized by their current and former names!

About the FAU Dance Team: The FAU dance team is part of FAU athletics. Beginning in 1997, the FAU dance team performs at all home football and basketball games. In addition, the dance team travels to select away games with football or basketball as well. Each summer the team attends dance camp with ProDance. The team learns various routines and performs them in a showcase at the closing of camp. The FAU Dance Team also does many public appearances as requested by the University and public. They range from various performances such as the Annual Chili Cook-off and private company appearances.

UniversityLyfe has updated it's home page (here)!

We left the old campus search box but revamped most of the page. Now you can view our Top 10 Schools (based by the # of students) and our Top 10 Newest Schools (based on date of creation), remember Campus Portals are created by students as they join our site so the fact that we have schools from all parts of the country goes to show how fast we are growing!

The Campus Portal looks like a deserted island until content is added by the schools' Sports Teams, Student Organizations, Greek Community, et. al. and even the local businesses - so get involved! Jose (our in-house geek/metal enthusiast) is working on enabling campus search by abbreviation as well - but for now you must search the full name of your school to find its' Campus Portal!

We are also updating our support section and have added the first article which is "Finding your Campus Portal" - hopefully this helps but as we receive more feedback from our beloved users we will make more changes to make uLyfe easier to use and more efficient to navigate.

Our photographers were Downtown on Atlantic Ave @ Delray Beach snapping photos of some of the restaurants that participated in the 2010 Tastemakers of Delray Beach:

Twenty-four of Delray's finest downtown dining establishments will be offering tastings representing different countries from around the world parried with wine, beer or cocktails."

UniversityLyfe Integrates Meebo Bar!

I am pleased to announce that we have successfully integrated the Meebo Toolbar into our entire website! Meebo started out as an all-in-one cloud based chat program - in English that means you can access popular clients like GTalk and AIM from the internet without downloading any software; they now have a wide variety of desktop and web based applications such as the Toolbar.

The Toolbar allows users to use the many features of UniversityLyfe while also being able to do a variety of actions:

Chat with friends using clients such as Facebook, Myspace, Google Talk, Yahoo, AIM, and Twitter
Share content on UniversityLyfe by dragging and dropping it to the site you want to share it on such as Yahoo, Buzz, Facebook, Twitter or Email to a friend
"Like" any uLyfe page - sharing it on Facebook
"Digg" any uLyfe page
Follow recent activity on the UniversityLyfe Facebook Fan Page

We are in the process of updating the uLyfe Platform's code so that more objects are able to be shared using the toolbar - this should be complete by early September.

The addition of this powerful tool is exciting because you can essentially interact with friends in a variety of ways while using UniversityLyfe - making an even more powerful productivity tool:

At the lowest level of productivity while browsing uLyfe content you can chat with friends from all of the popular chat clients - something you can't do on those individual clients without installing their desktop software
Say you have a group project for school - now your friends can use their preferred chat client and discuss the documents, photos, videos, thoughts on the wall, and discussion board topics on the groups' UniversityLyfe Project page; additionally you can use the share and like tools to invite group members to join uLyfe and reference the projects page
If you are looking for a photo from UniversityLyfe Live you can share the photo on many different sites by simply dragging and dropping it into the Meboo interface - or "Like" the page its on

Our team is also in the process of moving from contextual tutorials in our Help Center to "How To" videos which will be published on the UniversityLyfe YouTube channel - users will be able to access these videos anytime during their browsing experience whether their members of uLyfe or not from the toolbar. We hope to have this implemented by September as well.

Fall Lyfe

So we've got a lot of things in the works for the Fall Semester across Florida - and are open to anyone's comments and suggestions! Take a look for yourself:

- We will be photographing tailgating for 37 home games for our Florida Football Teams: Owls, Gators, Hurricanes, Seminoles, Bulls, Golden Panthers, and the Knights. If you have a Student Organization or are in a Greek Organization and are holding a special tailgating event - or want to put something together with your business and sponsor an event, we can assist in coverage and planning, email Live@uLyfe.com or give us a call (877) 380 - 8511 x2

- UniversityLyfe is going try and make it to as many Home Coming events as possible, joining the your schools' Community will help push the envelope on this!

- We have over 106 Entertainment Venues (Nightlife) across the state we will provide event coverage for at least once or twice this fall so if you have friends coming in in the later semesters or if your still debating schools, this is a great resource to see the different scenes across the state instead of just hearing about it.

- Our Group Projects tool is online, so this fall when you have class projects you can use uLyfe to share documents, photos, videos, and post discussions and bulletins to group members. You will be updated via Txt or Email depending on your settings when things are added or changed.

- We will be increasing our storage sizes for Student accounts so New Media Students can host larger video/audio files (we're pushing for 5-10GB). We will also be adding premium accounts for even more storage space which will cost no more than $2.95/mo

- UniversityLyfe is partnering with a great new product to launch a service called "uProtect" which we will register your debit cards and credit cards with our partner and in the event you loose your purse/wallet and need to deactivate these cards, you simply call the service and they take care of cancelling and re-ordering everything for you. If you are anything like me (super ADHD) then you'll enjoy this service.
